Combat desertification COP17: Decision on a global drought framework stalled once again, even as drought threat intensifies

UNCCD — United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (1994)
The UNCCD is one of the three "Rio Conventions" arising from the 1992 Rio Earth Summit (alongside the UNFCCC on climate change and the CBD on biodiversity), and is the only legally binding international agreement linking environment and development to sustainable land management. It was adopted in Paris on 17 June 1994 and entered into force on 26 December 1996.
