UNCCD

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification is one of three conventions to emerge from the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, alongside the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) — together known as the "Rio Conventions." UNCCD was adopted on 17 June 1994 and entered into force in 1996. It is the only legally binding international agreement linking environment and development to sustainable land management, focused specifically on countries experiencing serious drought and desertification, particularly in Africa.
