Bharat 6G Alliance Signs Five Global Partnerships: India's Push to Shape 6G
The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026 ended at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), Dwarka, New Delhi. It was organised by the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) alongside India Mobile Congress 2026.
The Bharat 6G Alliance signed five new MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding: written agreements to cooperate, which are not legally binding) with GSMA, one6G, GTI Alliance, a Taiwan 6G forum and VoICE. They cover joint research, spectrum harmonisation (using the same radio frequencies across countries) and joint trials.
The Alliance also released a set of white papers (detailed research reports) from its working groups on secure, resilient and sustainable 6G networks. About 75 speakers took part, more than 30 of them from abroad.
The Ministry of Communications said 6G must be affordable and accessible, and that linking ground-based mobile networks with satellite networks can bring connectivity to remote areas. It stressed that self-reliance and global cooperation go together.
India's stated aim is to shape global 6G standards, not just adopt them, and to hold about 10% of global 6G patents.
6G Technology: The Next Generation of Mobile Networks
6G is the sixth generation of mobile network technology, the system that will come after today's 5G. It is expected to be much faster than 5G, respond almost instantly, connect far more devices, and use artificial intelligence (AI) inside the network itself. The international name for 6G is IMT-2030, given by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Commercial 6G networks are expected around 2030.
The Bharat 6G Symposium focused on India's role in the global IMT-2030 roadmap. The five MoUs on joint research, spectrum harmonisation and trials are meant to give Indian ideas a stronger voice while ITU and 3GPP are still writing the 6G rules.
Bharat 6G Vision and the Bharat 6G Alliance
The Bharat 6G Vision is India's official plan to design, develop and deploy 6G technology, released in March 2023. Its goal is for India to become a leading global supplier of affordable 6G technology, intellectual property (patents) and solutions by 2030. The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA), launched in July 2023, is the platform that brings together industry, start-ups, universities and research bodies to carry out this plan.
The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium is the Alliance's yearly global meeting. The five new MoUs with GSMA, one6G, GTI Alliance, a Taiwan 6G forum and VoICE extend its global network, which is central to the Vision's aim of making India a shaper of 6G standards and a holder of 10% of its patents.
