Semicon India 2026: India’s semiconductor ecosystem expanding; opening new opportunities, says Modi

Semicon India 2026 was inaugurated at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), New Delhi, running from 17–19 September 2026 under the theme "Transform Tomorrow: Silicon to Systems — Building the Ecosystem."

At the inauguration, it was stated that India's semiconductor ecosystem is expanding rapidly, opening new opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth.

The event was told that commercial chip production has begun at new plants in Mohali and Surat, marking a shift from pilot lines to commercial-scale output.

The second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission was announced, with an outlay reported at $13.5 billion (approved by the Union Cabinet in July 2026 at roughly ₹1,27,500 crore), broadening the mission's focus beyond fabs and packaging to chip design, R&D, equipment and materials, additional fabs, talent development, and ATMP/OSAT (assembly, testing, marking and packaging / outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) capacity.

The event is being jointly held by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and industry body SEMI, with participation from over 600 companies across 52 countries.

India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), 2021
