What is a Full-Flow Staged Combustion (FFSC) engine?

FFSC is a rocket engine combustion cycle considered the most thermodynamically efficient and mechanically complex chemical bipropellant architecture available. Unlike simpler cycles (gas-generator or conventional staged combustion), an FFSC engine routes the entire flow of both propellants — fuel and oxidiser — through separate pre-burners before they enter the main combustion chamber, so no propellant is diverted to drive a low-pressure turbine exhaust wastefully. This allows extremely high chamber pressures (over 300 bar) and near-total propellant utilisation, translating into higher specific impulse, better reusability (engines can sustain hundreds of firings), and improved turnaround time for reusable launch vehicles.
