Tuberculosis: Biology, Drug Resistance, and Treatment

TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affecting the lungs (pulmonary TB) but also capable of affecting other organs (extrapulmonary TB). First-line treatment involves a 6-month regimen of DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short-course) using four drugs: isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol.
