Tata-Airbus H125 Helicopter Assembly Line Inaugurated in India, Deepening Indo-French Defence Partnership
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) inaugurated India's first private-sector helicopter Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the Airbus H125 at Vemagal, Karnataka, on 17 February 2026.
The inauguration was conducted virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron; Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended in person at the facility alongside French Minister of Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin and Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu.
Rajnath Singh described the facility as a "shining example of partnership in high-end manufacturing" and a "significant milestone in the long-standing India-France strategic partnership."
The facility marks the first time the Indian private sector will handle the full lifecycle — manufacturing, integration, testing, and maintenance — of a sophisticated rotary-wing platform in India; the first Made-in-India H125 is targeted for delivery in early 2027.
Investment in the H125 programme is expected to exceed ₹1,000 crore (USD 110 million), creating direct and indirect employment; helicopters will also be available for export across the South Asian region.

DAP 2020 is the policy framework governing defence procurement in India, with a strong emphasis on indigenisation and private sector participation.

The H125 FAL at Vemagal follows the C295 FAL model — demonstrating that India's private defence manufacturing ecosystem can progress from simple assembly to more complex rotary-wing platforms, with an eye toward eventual export capability.

India and France have one of India's deepest and most comprehensive bilateral defence relationships, built on strategic autonomy and shared geopolitical interests.
The H125 FAL inauguration — conducted jointly by the two heads of government — illustrates how the India-France partnership has moved beyond procurement to co-production, a model India is actively replicating with the US, Israel, Russia, and Australia.
