UPSC frequently tests the precise definitions and formulae behind India's core employment indicators, all derived from PLFS.
- Unemployment Rate (UR) = (Number of unemployed persons / Labour force) × 100, where the labour force comprises both employed and unemployed persons actively seeking work
- Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) = (Labour force / Total population) × 100
- Worker Population Ratio (WPR) = (Number of employed persons / Total population) × 100
- Current Weekly Status (CWS): activity status based on a 7-day reference period preceding the survey date
- Usual Status: activity status based on the preceding 365 days, published in PLFS Annual Reports
