India's Farmer-Centric Digital Public Infrastructure
AgriStack is a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative under the Digital Agriculture Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024, that builds a unified digital profile for every farmer to enable easier and faster delivery of government schemes and credit.
- Rests on three foundational registries: the Farmer Registry (unique Farmer ID linked to Aadhaar and land records), the Geo-Referenced Village Maps registry, and the Crop Sown Registry (updated via Digital Crop Survey).
- As of August 2026, over 10 crore Farmer IDs had been created nationally, with roughly 61% of the country's sown area linked to a Farmer ID.
- Farmer ID is designed as the single identifier for accessing PM-KISAN, Kisan Credit Card, crop insurance (PMFBY) and MSP procurement, in line with the "JAM"-style DPI approach used elsewhere in welfare delivery.
- Implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in partnership with states, since land records are a State subject.
