Formation and Structure
The Communist Party of India (Maoist) was formed on September 21, 2004, through the merger of the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) People's War (People's War Group/PWG). This consolidation unified two major Naxalite streams under a single central committee and politburo, expanding operational reach across the "Red Corridor" spanning parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal. The organisation is banned as a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
